Chapter 7.7 Synchronicity

Synchronicity

There actually is help when you reach the forks in your road.

“….the principle that C.G. Jung dubbed synchronicity, is loosely defined as a fortuitous intermeshing of events.  Back in the sixties we called it serendipity.”
The Artists Way Julia Cameron

So what is this thing called Synchronicity? Throughout my life, I’ve known that certain coincidences have occurred, just at the right time, that have changed my path in life.  Before I started reading more books, I figured that these coincidences were just good luck or bad luck.  Of course, when it was good luck I attributed the occasion to how wise I must be.  I had never heard of Synchronicity.

Let me give you an example of a synchronistic coincidence.

Lara was truly in despair. She was trying to become an actor and she was having trouble finding her guy. Her life was a mess. One day she made a decision. She decided to place her total focus on her career. The guy thing would just have to happen when the time was right. She meditated and focused her intent on directing her to find the right part to re-launch her career. She also placed her trust in the universe. That night she went on the internet to search for auditions. She saw an audition for a role in a film school project. When she applied for the part, she noticed that the casting director was a guy that she had known in junior high school. It had been flirtatious, but they had never been together. After some serious consideration, she applied for the audition, he called her, she got the part … and ended up switching careers and marrying the guy.

(True story …)

Of course the first requirement in lining up Synchronicity is having the Faith that this stuff really works. Why would any self-respecting guide (and they all are) want to waste time with someone who thinks it’s all hogwash? It’s probably most effective if you’re working around your life-mission, something that will guide you forward on your path.

“The intellect has little to do on the road to discovery. There comes a leap in consciousness, call it intuition or what you will, and the solution comes to you and you don’t know how or why.”
Albert Einstein (1879-1955)     German Theoretical Physicist

To experience Synchronicity, you have to follow the signs. Now, I’m not a mall-guy, but when I do muster up the notion, I’ll go buy what I know that I need.  It’s the hit-and-run approach.  Some days I cannot find anything that I like or that is in my size.  Other days I will just nail down everything as it all falls into place.

In my world, there are shopping days and not.  When it’s not, I may as well go home.  Pushing forward just doesn’t work. In the workplace, of course, you can’t always decide to just not do something this day, so we all learn how to plow through these setbacks and force your task to completion … I still do.

But when things don’t go right, like the paint spills, or things fall off the shelf, or I twist my ankle going too fast, my take now is that maybe, on this day, I shouldn’t be doing this task.  I should back off and do something different. Perhaps it’s my guides (or the Leprechauns) that are trying to help me … to focus me to another task.

“We have always found the subject of synchronicity to be extremely interesting and, indeed, an important part of everyday life which can serve as a continual “marker” for ones relationship to the “flow of life”, and this often is an ongoing reflection of the frequency of dialogue with the Higher Self on a day-to-day basis.”
Val Valerian     Leading Edge International Research Group

There are many signs on your road of destiny.  Just as an experienced tracker, you must open all of your senses and allow the information to register.  Allow a brief clearing of the mind from your tunnel vision and allow the signs to show themselves.  Look around you. A light intuitive pull is probably a flashlight beam to your path.  The less we try to rationalize our intuitions and just follow them, the more amazing little experiences occur.  Be open and be receptive.

“After you get an intuition of what might happen next, then the next step is to become very alert and watchful.  Sooner or later coincidences will occur to move you in the direction indicated in the intuition.”
The Celestine Prophecy    James Redfield

As I determined my need to write this little venture, I could argue that the right books, the right articles, the right movies showed up at the right time.  I have noticed a book on the shelf, had topics suggested to me through a TV interview, or had a friend recommend a movie or documentary for me to watch. Some of these nudges became key elements, while others provided filler knowledge to advance my ponderings. The excitement is in finding and following the clues.

“One aspect of serendipity to bear in mind is that you have to be looking for something in order to find something else.”
Lawrence Block     American Writer

Another element that we touched on earlier is that the way that you think things are going to play out isn’t usually the way it actually lands in reality. In a way believing in Synchronicities can be very humbling … you can’t just manifest exactly what you want. On the other hand, the belief in Synchronicities can be very powerful. Knowing that you have help in following your path in life enhances your boldness. I don’t believe in coincidences much anymore. I believe more in the synchronistic experience.

“Chance is always powerful. Let your hook be always cast; in the pool where you least expect it, there will be a fish.”
Ovid (43 BCE – 18 CE)     Ancient Roman Poet

Although Synchronicities are occurring around you all of the time, just waiting to lead you to your mission and your tasks, you cannot force a synchronistic experience to occur.  You can’t just lay out a bit of bait and be rewarded with the prize. Things will happen when you are not expecting. You need to train yourself to recognize the signs in front of you and then be willing to follow up on the opportunities. If you never start searching for your purpose, you’ll never find the clues and the people who will help you get to your destination.

“Knowing our personal mission further enhances the flow of mysterious coincidences as we are guided to our destinies.”
JamesRedfield    The Celestine Prophecy 7th Insight

At one point in my career I actually reached my vision that had been created nearly 20 years prior. Not setting a new vision left me adrift. I lost my job and purpose. Now retired and somewhat adrift again, I am working on my next mission or vision. Thanks for reminding me – mission first then enjoy the adventure toward fulfillment.

    Synchronicity= God’s Grace, God’s timimg.

There is a deep truth in the quietness of each moment. Whenever I take my time to connect with this truth, I am often encouraged by what I hear resonating inside myself… That I am on the path toward my purpose. Sometimes it comes in the form of a coincidence and sometimes it comes in the form of a particular stranger that I meet. But somehow this guiding light or voice seems to find me… I believe it to be the voice of the Universe, my ancestors and God guiding me through the challenges of everyday life. Without it, I cannot imagine how lost I would feel. It is all too easy these days to get caught up in the pace of life and forget to look, listen and feel our way along our journey. Now is always a good time to remember. =)
